Prague, Czech Republic

Day 2 - After that, we head to the Czech border in the Bohemian Forest and travel to Prague.  We arrived at our hotel, Andel's, which is very near a shopping mall so we got to shop a little before dinner.  At night, we joined the Prague by Night excursion where we had a guided walking tour.  We went to Strahov Monastery at a hilltop where you can have a fantastic view of the city.  Next we stopped by a local tavern to have some drinks and listen to traditional music.  And finally, the evening highlight is the walk accross Charles Bridge that crosses the Vltava river and connects Prague Castle to the Old Town.  At the end of the bridge is a gothic tower called the Old Town Bridge Tower which opens to the Old Town.  You can get a nice view of Prague Castle from the square right in front of St. Salvator Church, which is considered to be one of the most valuable example of early Baroque architecture in Prague.

Day 3 - It's the day to visit the Hradcany Castle grounds surrounding the Prague Castle. After walking around, we went inside St. Vitus Cathedral.  This Roman Catholic church is the biggest and most important church in Czech Republic.  It is built gothic style and contains tombs of Bohemian kings and Holy Roman Emperors.

What I look forward to the most this day is to see the Astronomical Clock in the Old Town Square. We made it in time to see the fascinating mechanical performance of the clock that happens every hour. The clock mechanism itself is composed of three main components, the astronomical dial showing the position of sun and moon, "The Walk of the Apostles" where figures of the Apostles are moving as the hour strikes, and the calendar dial with medallions representing the months. Very entertaining and definitely a must see when in the Old Town. :)

We had lunch aboard a Vltava (Moldau) Cruise. It's a nice buffet lunch with nice scenery. We're left to walk on our own after the cruise so we decided to look for this ice cream filled Trdelnik from Good Food Coffee and Bakery. Trdelnik is a doughnut cone with cinnamon and nuts. It's delicious but too bad we're too full from the buffet lunch that we can't finish the whole thing. We went back to the mall near our hotel for last minute shopping and grabbed something to eat for dinner.
