Jeju Island, South Korea
I just noticed that I didn't post anything about my trips in 2013. =( I hope I'll find time to post about them in the future, but for now, I'll just post one trip from December 2013 which is with my family. ^_^
We arrived Jeju Island around lunch time and met our guide in the airport. We went directly to lunch, a hearty grilled beef meal, we ate it the Korean way wrapped in lettuce. Next we went to Osulloc Tea Museum where you can buy different tea products and they also have a coffee shop that sells their famous green tea ice cream.
Still on the same day, we went next to Joanne Teddy Bear Museum. I've been to the teddy bear museum in Seoul Tower before, but it's different here. In Seoul Tower, they have more small bears dressed and placed in a scene like a wedding ceremony, or a village full of working citizens, etc. In Joanne Teddy Bear Museum they have giant bears in different costumes. They even have a gallery of Bae Young Jun bears. Before heading of dinner, we have one last tour stop at Cheonjiyeon Waterfall, which means a waterfall connecting the sky and land. The falls is lighted at night so you can still see it clearly even at dark. Then off to a bibimbap dinner with pork and dumplings soup.
Day 2, it's raining and quite chilly. Our first stop is Manjanggul Cave, one of the finest lave tunnels in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We were allowed to walk inside the cave up to 1km deep, but with the rocky walls and uneven floors, it's quite difficult to get far inside. We only reached up to the Stone Turtle, which they say is shaped like Jeju-do.
Next stop is Seongup Folk Village where you can see thatched houses with stone and clay walls where people still live until now. We were welcomed by one of the house owners and toured us around their property. We transfer to Aqua Planet aquarium next, the largest aquarium in Asia. And our final destination for the day is Seongsan Ilchulbong or Sunrise Peak, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There's a trail leading up to the top of the peak where the huge crater is.
Day 3, our first stop is the Yongduam Rock or the Dragon Head Rock. It's a natural rock formation that is shaped like a dragon's head. There are different legends telling us of how the head came about. Around the area are restaurants offering fresh seafood. Next we passed by the Mysterious Road, and finally to the Natural History Museum.
On our last day, we got to relax and do some last minute shopping before heading to the airport to fly back home. It was a short but fun trip with my whole family that I hope we can do every year. Thank you Lord for the chance to share these memories with my family.
